Extended version (18 min long video) of the ACI 2011 course in Belmonte in Sabina. Archaeological Conservation Institute (ACI) is a collaboration between Randolph College, Virginia and Centro di Conservazione Archeologica (CCA) – Roma. The course was held under the direction of Roberto Nardi (CCA’s director) and Susan Stevens (Professor of Classics and archaeology, Randolph College). The first edition of the course took place at the CCA’s headquarters in Convento di San Nicola in Belmonte in Sabina, Rieti and and it was attended by ten undergraduate and graduate students from a variety of disciplines from Randolph College, Virginia. The course, two weeks long, was held between the 6th and the 18th of May 2011, and combined theoretical lectures with intensive laboratory practice, presentation and discussion of case studies and study trips to cultural destinations in Italy. Other cultural activities enabled the students to experience the rich gastronomic tradition of central Italy. Laboratory practice focussed on the treatment of wall paintings and marble fragments from the Roman Villa of Sant’Imbenia in Sardinia.
