CCA, Centro di Conservazione Archeologica is a private firm operating on public commission in the field of conservation of monuments, works of art and archaeological sites. It was founded in 1982 by graduates of the Istituto Centrale per il Restauro, as a highly specialized professional venture.
The CCA, Centro di Conservazione Archeologica was established in 1982 as a private/public service organisation in the field of conservation, maintenance and protection of monuments, archaeological sites, mural paintings and mosaics. The CCA is based in the restored convent of San Nicola, located 80 km (50 miles) to the north of Rome, where the field projects are managed and the professional training programs and laboratory activities are carried out.
The company, headed by Roberto Nardi, is made up of professional conservators who all trained at the ICR, Istituto Centrale del Restauro in Rome in the conservation and restoration of monuments, mosaics, wall paintings and archaeological finds. The CCA undertake a range of projects from educational programs in preventive conservation, restoration-conservation through to complex conservation treatments and long-term major conservation programs for monuments, museum collections and archaeological sites.

HIGHLIGHTS
Some of the most important CCA highlights since 1982
1982
The first campaign for graphic mapping of the state of conservation of the marble surfaces of the Arch of Septimius Severus is approved by the Soprintendenza Archeologica di Roma and from that time on is the standard procedure.
1985
For the first time, the CCA opens to the public the scaffolding of the Arch of Septimius Severus in Rome during the work in progress, organizing guided tours to inform the public and the media about the restoration under way. An article entitled “The Story Saved by the Boys” is published in the Italian newspaper Il Tempo, December 3
1987
The use of lime mortar as the main material for conservation in situ of mosaics, wall paintings and wall structures is promoted and practiced.
1990
The CCA begins its engagement in the Middle East, where it promotes in situ conservation and the use of lime. Since that time, it has organized training courses for the Departments of Antiquities of Syria, Jordan, Turkey, Israel, Yemen, Egypt and Tunisia.
1993
Roberto Nardi becomes vice-president of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics ( ICCM ).
1996
The CCA establishes its headquarters in the province of Rieti, 80 km from Rome, in a Franciscan convent of the 13th century, with the aim of carrying out training courses and interventions on artifacts.
1999
On behalf of UNESCO, the CCA organizes and implements Save Our Site, a training program in conservation and management for site managers of the Syrian and Jordan Departments of Antiquities
2000
The CCA carries out conservation during the excavation of structures in the Roman city of Zeugma in Turkey, which was about to be flooded by an artificial lake.
2004
Andreina Costanzi Cobau receives for the CCA the Keck Award from the London-based International Institute for Conservation (IIC) for the best public information project Open for Restoration -The Conservation of the Centaurs of the Capitoline Museum of Rome.
2006
The Minister of Culture of Turkey, Atilla Koç, delivers a recognition plaque to the CCA director, Roberto Nardi, for the restoration of the mosaics of the Ancient City of Zeugma.
2007
The CCA receives the prestigious Aga Khan Award for Architecture for the restoration of the wall paintings in one of the most important Koranic schools of Yemen, the Amiriya Madrasa in Radà, conducted under the direction of Selma Al Radi.
2010
Roberto Nardi is nominated Samuel H. Kress Lecturer in Ancient Art for the 2010/2011 academic year by the Archaeological Institute of America (AIA) and commissioned to carry out an intensive program of conferences and lectures in the United States.
2011
The CCA starts organizing training courses in mosaic conservation within the framework of MOSAIKON, an international initiative to support mosaic conservation in the Mediterranean area.
2014
The CCA receives from the University of Sassari a medal for commitment to safeguarding the cultural heritage of Sardinia.
2014
Roberto Nardi becomes president of the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM).
2015
The CCA receives the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards for the conservation of Mont’e Prama Nuragic Sculptures in Cabras. The same project was also awarded the prestigious Public Choice Award.
2016
The CCA receives the Best in Heritage Project of Influence, awarded by the European Heritage Association under the patronage of ICOM and Europa Nostra, for the Mont’e Prama project.
2018
The CCA receives the EU Prize for Cultural Heritage / Europa Nostra Awards for the conservation of the mosaic of the Transfiguration in the Basilica of Saint Catherine’s Monastery in Sinai, Egypt, a 6th-century mosaic of extraordinary importance.
