Lo scavo di una fossa praticata a ridosso del muro circolare dell’esedra antica, verosimilmente in occasione dell’erezione del muro perimetrale del Conservatorio, ha consentito il recupero di un ingente scarico di frammenti di intonaci dipinti di età medioevale, che costituiscono un contesto omogeneo di considerevole interesse.

Si tratta di un complesso di 1335 frammenti, di cui il maggiore non supera i cm2 100 che denotano, dalla varietà delle campiture di sottofondo, di appartenere a diverse tipologie di decorazione.

Attraverso la divisione in gruppi operata sulla base dei colori, della sovrapposizione degli stessi e del verso delle pennellate è stato possibile distinguere le decorazioni sovra-dipinte dai motivi a bande colorate.
