Mosaic Conservation: Fifty Years of Modern Practice. Keynote address at ICCM 9th Conference

Congress Center, Hammamet, Tunisia / November 29th, 2005

About this lecture

Opening the ICCM 9th International Conference held at Hammamet in November 2005, Roberto Nardi and Gael de Guichen explored the theme of the conference, “Lessons Learned Reflecting on the theory and practice of mosaic conservation” looking back on the history and practice of mosaic conservation and the philosophy that has guided it.

“Philosophy and approach to the conservation of mosaics underwent significant change in the post-World War II period, a transformation that is still under way. Where once mosaics were routinely removed from archaeological sites, now the trend is to conserve them in situ when possible”.
