About this lecture
The Mediterranean region and, in particular, countries like Syria, Jordan, Tunisia and Libya, are amongst the richest countries in mosaic heritage. Despite their importance, mosaics are neglected, vandalized, looted or lost in museums and site stores. Amongst the most active agents of deterioration, we can find an inadequate level of qualification of professionals and/or decision makers.
The presentation described and commented upon MCC, the “Mosaic Conservation Course 2010-2016”, an initiative designed in response to the growing need to develop increased capacities for the conservation and management of mosaic heritage, whether in situ or museums, for conservator-restorers of mosaics.
This initiative, organized by CCA-Rome is part of MOSAIKON, a collaborative initiative of the Getty Conservation Institute (GCI), the Getty Foundation, the International Centre for the Study of the Preservation and Restoration of Cultural Property in Rome (ICCROM), and the International Committee for the Conservation of Mosaics (ICCM).
