The Arch of Septimius Severus, a structure dating to AD 203 and built to celebrate imperial victories over the Parthians, was restored by the Centro di Conservazione Archeologica (CCA) in 1981-1987.
Eight years after the treatment, a first inspection of the surfaces was done in order to verify the monument’s condition, examine the results of conservation treatments performed during the restoration and carry out extraordinary maintenance of the surfaces.
During this intervention, materials and treatments were tested, documentation maps on the condition of the marble surfaces were updated, and the time and expense of maintenance were evaluated.
