El mosaico, que tiene que ser considerado como un conjunto estratigràfico de teselado y soporte (sinopia donde exista) ya no es visto esclusivamente como una capa superficial de revestimiento, sino que asumió un valor histórico-tecnológico del cual hoy el conservador tiene que ser consciente. Esta consideración impone a la decisión metodológica de la praxis conservativa una dirección que lleve al intentar consolidar y mantener in situ la estructura completa en todas sus partes. A pesar de esto, sobre todo cuando se opera en sitios con colocaciones y caracteristicas disimiles nos podemos encontrar en la condición particular donde la decisión de separación del teselado sea la única posible solución. El caso presentado pertenece a esta última categoria y es relativo a la intervención conservativa hecho sevre la fuente de la Casa del Bracciale, a Pompeya.
