Museo Diocesano, Piazza Armerina, Enna, Italy / April 9th, 2003

About this lecture

The first International Conference “La Materia e i Segni della Storia”, held in Piazza Armerina in April 2003, addressed the issues related to the conservation and maintenance of ancient floor mosaic. The conference, organized by the Sicilian Regional Center for Planning and Restoration, inserted in the wider project called “Charter of the Risk of Cultural and Environmental Heritage of the Sicilian Region”, has set itself the goal of stimulating the comparison between scholars in the sector in order to reach the development of shared protocols of methodologies of interventions for the conservation and restoration of mosaic surfaces. Chiara Zizola contributed to the relevant debate by presenting in the session “Conservation issues” the intervention realized on the mosaic of Quintus Calpurnius Eutyches rescued from Zeugma, Turkey by the CCA in 2002.
